Hello everyone!
We are thinking of implementing the “require upfront payment” for our private users since we constantly have to notify them for paying overdue bills and others.
- In your experience, do private users like this, don’t really care or mind or is it very annoying for them to put money in their account to be able to keep working?
- is the transaction to load money in your account as fast as when you, as a private user, manually confirm the payment in own fabman account? which is pretty much instantaneous?
- Are there some disadvantages for us, the makerspace? And/or for the private user?
- What others ways could be a good way to avoid the constant contacting for paying overdue bills?
Looking forward to hear what your experiences with this are!
happy making,
Julian

Only a handful of Fabman customers use “require upfront payment” more broadly, so it might be difficult to reach people who have lots of experience with it.
A few months ago we’ve added the ability for members to add money to their prepayment account in the member portal, which should be pretty straight-forward. But let me know if you experience any friction with that process.

Hello!
Thanks a lot for the answer!
What is the difference between adding money to a prepayment account and upfront payment? And what exactly is this prepayment account in fabman? I, when in admin account, only see the checkbox for require upfront payment.
Is the “adding money to prepaidaccount” only active when we set the check box for upfront payment?
Thank you in advance!
I meant “topping up their member balance”, i.e. what’s necessary before they can use equipment if you enable “require upfront payment”.
Yes, if you have enabled this option for a member and have enabled the Stripe integration, the members see a “Top up balance” button on their billing page in the member portal:
